It was so on the page. He said,

When asked how he feels about his character’s relationship with Cristobal, Carrigan seems to share fans’ enthusiasm over the sweet love affair.

Was that something that was planned from the beginning of the show, or did the idea come later?

Anthony Carrigan: I don’t know if we knew prior to this season shooting necessarily, although there were kind of breadcrumbs that you can kind of see if you’re paying attention. Over the course of the season, it’s revealed that Cristobal has a family in Bolivia, and he’s married to the daughter of Bolivian crime lord Fernando (Miguel Sandoval).

It doesn’t matter you know, male or female, I’m cheating on my whole existence back there. Someone right in the middle, who cares about others but isn’t afraid to do bad things. And then all of a sudden, the world comes crashing in and I’m getting bagged and tagged and ripped out the front door. Heck, I don’t see anyone as the hero of this show because each character has flaws, but if you want to be specific, Hank would be classified as an antagonist.

Even if he isn't the lead character on the show, he always had something funny to say and sometimes the most outlandish things that you would never imagine someone to say, which is really what makes him memorable.

And as I was reading it, the actor reading it, watching that, there’s all this realization happening for these two people who thought I was something, and I tried to explain to them that I am what I am for each one of them. And for them to both see that I’m neither one of those people. Hank stands out as an upbeat and quirky presence amidst a dark and brutal series.

NoHo Hank became the new leader of the Chechen mafia in Season 2. We can reasonably presume that his first name is indeed Hank, but in lieu of a formal full name, he is often only referred to as either "NoHo Hank" or simply "Hank."

The term "NoHo" is actually a casual abbreviation of the neighborhood name "North Hollywood." North Hollywood is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, where Barry mainly takes place.

What was it like working with Bill Hader on that scene?

Carrigan: Yeah, I mean, it was so simple, and honestly, the scene just kind of flew by. They had talked about starting over repeatedly, but to get there, he decided to take a darker route – and Cristobal didn’t like that.

Years later, Hank turned his entire business into a company called NoHoBal, which is based all around sand importation, to try and keep things cleaner in honor of Cristobal.

Between all the shows we constantly binge-watch on Netflix to the latest 2023 TV releases, there’s only so much I can watch during the day. Introduced in the first season of Alec Berg and Bill Hader’s crime comedy as members of the warring Chechen and Bolivian mafias, the two easygoing and cheerful mob bosses have had many moments of camaraderie with each other, as their friendly demeanors mesh together like chocolate and peanut butter.

And, it was a really wonderful opportunity for the three of us to just improv because I think that was one of those scenes where it started off as as one thing, and then we just began to play around and it found its shape and became something totally different. How did you approach this scene where Cristobal gets taken away?

Irby: You know, it’s like when you get the rug pulled out from you.

I mean, one of my other favorite TV characters is Negan from The Walking Dead, so I love a character who can say quote-worthy things and has intense ideas for the future.

Hank is undoubtedly one of those. I feel that in so many of the shows I’ve watched, the transition of power is seamless, and I guess what I’m trying to say is a big thank you to Barry for being realistic with Hank’s rise.

He Somehow Always Had A Sense Of Humor

Something that everyone always loves is an antagonist that brings the humor.

I have to admire that kind of confidence because it is something I lack.

And, of course, as time goes on, his ideas get better and better, and we start to understand where Hank is coming from.
