Why Frozen 3 Giving Elsa An LGBTQ+ Love Story Would Be A Big Step For Disney

There have been many “first” gay Disney characters, usually in minor roles like Officer Spector in Onward, though big steps have been made toward greater representation with movies like Strange World, which has an openly gay main character.

Elsa and Honeymaren share a connection based on their Northuldra heritage and love for nature.

    The three newest additions to the Disney Princess line–Merida, Moana, and Raya–all lack love interests, showing a positive trend regarding what a more modern Disney Princess is and should be that can be partially attributed to Elsa and her popularity.

    Elsa’s character was deliberately written without romance in Frozen and Frozen II to focus on her complex character and relationship with Anna instead.

    Both of the previous Frozen films had their own unique stories to tell but were connected by their themes of sisterhood, battling expectations, self-discovery, and more.
