Piazza di Spagna – Located at the base of the Spanish Steps, Piazza di Spagna is one of Rome’s most famous squares.

Maybe it is the leisurely pace of life (particularly in the summer when we were there), the morning routine of getting a pastry and espresso lungo on the daily from the local pasticerria, the commonplace evening aperitivo, the evening walks (that were often accompanied by gelato), the fact that Rome is literally like an open-air museum with ancient Roman artifacts at every corner, or, let's be real, maybe it's the charming and romantic Roman boys.

No matter how we put it, this city has something special.

The journey takes approximately 1 hour. A taxi ride at fixed prices is available for €30 from Ciampino and €40 from Fiumicino taking between 45 minutes to 1 hour.

The Maxxi – Roman architecture and art come together to showcase their bold, contemporary sides in this impressive collection of spacious galleries.

Skip-the-line tickets are a lifesaver here, letting you explore into this gladiatorial playground without losing precious time. We recommend Genki. Open until 5am and located at Via di Monte Testaccio 44.

Frutta e Verdura is a late after-hours gay dance party that starts at 4:30am in the Bunker Club which is a large cruising club.

You can purchase the membership onsite at any of the bars which costs between 8€ to 15€ depending on if it’s a one-time pass or year-long membership. Here are a few of our recommendations:

    • Trattoria Luzzi: Although I mentioned that a lot of restaurants near the Colosseum are a bit tourist-trappy, this one is an exception and recommended fondly by local Italian friends for both flavors and reasonable prices.
    • Trattoria da Teo: This is a staple of the Roman restaurant scene.
